Detoxification Services provide safe and effective symptom management for those withdrawing from a psychoactive substance
What are Detoxification Services?
Detoxification services are for people who are withdrawing from a psychoactive substance. Often times, the withdrawal process can cause physical and emotional discomfort. The detoxification services at Gaudenzia Erie help people come through this process safely.
What can I expect in the Detoxification Unit?
Upon admission, you will be evaluated by a licensed nurse who will set up a plan to address your detoxification needs. A physician will provide you with a physical examination. The physician will prescribe medication as appropriate and will provide you with ongoing medical monitoring throughout the detoxification process.
Once you are feeling better, we will encourage you to participate in our group therapy sessions. You will also meet individually with a member of our clinical counseling team. The counselor will talk with you to assess what treatment would be the best for you. Once your treatment needs are identified, you will be offered treatment options.
Do you offer buprenorphine?
Yes, we offer buprenorphine for opiate withdrawal. To safely administer the buprenorphine, a physician must conduct a face-to-face evaluation, and we will ask for a urine sample. We will also look for signs that you are exhibiting opiate withdrawal. With this information, it is determined whether a client is appropriate for buprenorphine protocol.
What is the length of the detoxification?
The length of stay in the detoxification unit is varied and depends on the nature of your withdrawal symptoms. The detoxification process can last anywhere from three to six days. A physician will clear you when you are no longer exhibiting withdrawal complications and symptoms.
