Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Gaudenzia Erie's Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program offers an effective two-pronged approach to help clients overcome opiate use disorders. We combine scientifically-proven medication with clinical therapy to significantly improve addiction treatment outcomes.
Addiction Fighting Medications
Addiction is a chronic disease that dramatically alters normal brain functioning. For certain individuals, the craving for an opioid is so strong that they are unable to focus on seeking treatment, or if in treatment, to focus on staying in recovery. Addiction medications can be life-saving for these individuals as their brains and bodies heal.
We offer buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone®) and naltrexone (Vivitrol®) as key tools in supporting a comprehensive addiction treatment plan. These medications have been proven to reduce cravings and minimize physical withdrawal symptoms in individuals who suffer from an opioid addiction. By quelling the debilitating effects of withdrawal, clients experience greater mental clarity and are better able to guard against relapse. As clients’ overall health stabilizes, we help them begin a medically-monitored taper down to zero medication use. Our ultimate goal is to help each client live an abstinence-based sober lifestyle.
